Released in 1982, it only took a year to become the best-selling album of all time — which it still is (by far). Reading through the track list, I realized I know almost every song yet I’ve never listened to the album as a whole. So, let’s do it up right and enjoy it like Michael and producer Quincy Jones intended. I figure some of you guys are pretty familiar with this one already, but I think it will still make for an interesting discussion.
- Michael wrote four of the songs on this album: Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin, The Girl is Mine, Beat It, and Billie Jean. Do you think he was experiencing paranoia?
- The album features Sir Paul McCartney, Eddie Van Halen, and two of the members of Toto — one of which wrote Human Nature (which explains a lot). Who left the most memorable mark?
- Michael’s goal was to create an entire album of hits, which he basically did. Do you think that takes away from the album’s value as a whole? Does it lack a common thread?
- Is Bruno Mars the second coming of MJ or just a shameless impersonator? Baby Be Mine and 24K Magic are basically the same concept, expressed three decades apart.
- Who’s girl was she really? Micheal’s or Paul’s? I mean, she did tell Paul that he was her forever lover…
